Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She has covered several notable news stories throughout time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
